The Friends

Topic: holistic

This morning I discover some strange little stories on my printer. One is all about a world made of food and the other is entitled 'The Friends'. Apparently there was an invasion of small children the previous evening. Anyway, I thought I'd share my favourite with you:

THE FRIENDS

ONCE THERE LIVED 4 BEST FRIENDS CALLED ELLA,SAM,JESSICA AND TAYLOR.OFTER SCHOOL THEY ALWAYS MEET AT ECHO OTHERS HOSES.ONE DAY THEY WENT TO THE PARK BUT SAM WAS KWIT AN ATVENTRER SO HE GOT THEM LOST THEY STAYED THERE FOR AGES ONE DAY ELLA AND TAYLOR FOND A WAY OUT IN THE MORNING JESSICA FOND HER WAY OUT SAM WAS ALL ALON. HE WAS REALLY SCERD HE LOOKED AND LOOKED BUT COULDN'T FIND HIS WAY OUT.ONE DAY HE FOND HIS WAY OUT.1

You gotta love a story with a happy ending! Apparently the girl who wrote this is seven years old and well, you have to hand it to her really, she is wise beyond her years. The story seems to have several morals:

  • 1. It doesn't matter how many 'friends' you have, they will all leave you alone in the park, only YOU can find your own way out.
  • 2. If you have one really CLOSE friend, by working together you will get out fastest. (See Ella and Taylor)
  • 3. If you pay attention to the buggers that stick together, you can follow them out.
  • 4. If you try to do something exciting, you will only end up lost and alone and everybody will desert you, only YOU can find your own way out.

Andy Sheppard's Sax Massive

Topic: reviews

So last weekend, I went down to the Colston Hall Opening shindig and worked doing a bit of stewarding for Andy Sheppard's Sax Massive, conducted by Orphy Robinson. My job was to help the lovely lady YolanDa Brown up onto a precarious platform and not drop her beautiful saxophone in the process.

So there I am, passing up some improbably high-heeled shoes to this lady and I'm told She's really famous you know?. I didn't know! We had a laugh anyway. I'm not really up to date with current Jazz stars! Ah well. Her playing is absolutely stunning though, full of vibrance and passion, even in the weird avante-jazz bits.

The actual piece - well, the sound of 200 saxophones meandering around an African Jazz tune and severely atmospheric soloist jousting over sustained chords was really impressive. Orphy seemed to have absolute control over the musicians and of course Andy Sheppard had to finish up with a display of circular breathing that had everybody mesmerised.

After the saxes, there was some aerial stuff from Cirque Bijou with an amazing group of beatboxers, led by world champion beatboxer Bellatrix. They were awesome, very RnB oriented but I guess that's to be expected.

A group of Dohldrummers led the saxophones and audience round the building back into the foyer for the rest of the evening's entertainment, which included a 100 guitar massive! Sadly, Dash had an appointment with a big pie and couldn't stay.

Here's a video of the saxes anyway, there are surprisingly few photos out on the internet, considering the number of photographers who were there!

More DIY

I'm sorry it's all been so quiet lately. But don't think Dash has been resting on his laurels! I have embarked upon a very exciting new writing project, which will be published on Skip the Budgie soon - in a few weeks hopefully.

Also, we have managed to transform our bedroom from this:

Bedroom (1 of 9)

To this (any hints on light fittings gratefully received!):

Bedroom (9 of 9)

For those of you DIY inclined folks, there is a sequence showing the transformation on my flickr - just click on one of the above pictures. Doors HAVE been added, we just haven't finished 'em yet!
