Storylines
Now you can read all the scenes in which a particular character appears, in order.
I thought this might be helpful for some readers, as there are several plot lines at the moment and this way you focus on each character (next up: The character dossier!).
This cleverness does have a small downside, though:
Please note: Once you are in the scene, the navigation WILL take you through the book as normal, so to continue with each character you will need to hit the back button on your browser! Apologies for this, but it is hard to implement such fancy metabrowsing...
Character Storylines:
- Billy (30) - Billy is a 7 year-old synaesthete (or "synee"), which means that he associates objects / sounds and words with colours and shapes. When he is stressed, the colours can be overwhelming, taking the form of a dark presence he calls the Shadow.
He is about to become very stressed indeed... - Kath (16) - Kath (or Kathy as she is known when she is little) is also a synaesthete, although she does not have the intrusive problems that BIlly does. Her ability to associate numbers with colours and shapes gives her a unique outlook on life and especially technology.
When Kathy creates a sentient computer in 1989, a lot of people sit up and take notice, and not all of them have her best interests at heart. - Natalie (15) - Natalie is just a kid when Professor Dudgeon recruits her to work for the biggest pharmaceutical company in the country.
She thinks that they are going to change the world, and they do, but not in a way she could ever have imagined. - Davey (11) - Davey is Billy's neighbour, and an old man who knows a lot more than he lets on.
Sworn to protect Billy and his mother from The Seekers, when the little boy disappears, Davey realises that it's time to stop hiding and make things right. - Dudgeon (14) - Professor Joanne Dudgeon wants to change the world. She is well on her way to helping the human race become immune to all disease, but somewhere along the way her morality has become frayed at the edges.
When history catches up with her, Dudgeon begins to wonder if the means really justifies the end. - Stagnetto (1) - Professor Laurence Stagnetto doesn't believe in experimenting on human subjects. Instead, he pioneers his research by experimenting on himself, in a bid to become the world's first fully augmented human being. Technology and humanity combined into one "superhuman" (if you're feeling kind), or "monstrous cyborg" (if you're not).
- Unicorn (12) - Unicorn is Kath's sentient computer.
After the great unveiling in 1989, Unicorn and his young creator discover that being sentient isn't all it's cracked up to be. - Unknown (10) - Unknown / No characters / Or I just want you to guess at this stage!
